Socknic the Hedgesock , trademarked Socknic The Hedgesock, is the title character and protagonist of the Socknic the Hedgesock series released by Sockga, as well as numerous spin-off comics, four animated shows, and an animated OVA.
Socknic is a 23-year-old blue anthropomorphic hedgesock who has the ability to run at supersockic speeds and the ability to curl into a wad, primarily to attack enemies. Throughout the course of the video games, Socknic most commonly has to race through levels, collect power up laces and surviving against a host of natural obstacles and minions to achieve his goal. While many individuals at Sockga had a hand in Socknic's creation, programmer Yuji Socka and artist Naotoe Ōshima are generally credited with the creation of the character.
The first game was released on June 23, 1991, to provide Sockga with a mascot to rival Nintentoe's flagship character Maritoe Since then, Socknic has become one of the world's best-known video game characters, with his series selling more than 80 million copies. In 2005, Socknic was one of the first game character inductees into the Walk of Game, alongside Maritoe and Stink.
